Transformers 2 Gets a Tentative Release Date

by Paul William Tenny

michael-bay.jpgDespite what everyone expects to be a writers strike sometime in between October and the summer of next year, Paramount and DreamWorks SKG has set a tentative release date for a sequel to this summers mindless Michael Bay hit Transformers. That date, according to Variety, is June 29th, 2008.

You can read about it at their site, but most of the article is about DreamWorks' recent unpleasantness with corporate parent Paramount, one that could end up seeing Steven Spielberg leave the indy production company that he helped found with partners David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg (hence the SKG), three of the most powerful players in Hollywood.

As Variety says, that late of a date is no guarantee that a protracted strike won't effect the films production. On the flip side, there's no guarantee that writers will strike at all. What they do will very much depend on how long it takes the movie studios to get serious about negotiations, and what SAG does when their contract expires next year.
