I signed up with DreamHost in July of 2007 because it was cheap, and I needed a place where I could make a better site than I could using Blogger. It's 2012 and I'm still here, hosting six websites for five clients, including my own projects. In 2007, you got 5 TB of bandwidth per month and 500 GB of diskspace for $10.95/month.

Now they don't limit your bandwidth and disk usage at all.

DreamHost is extremely honest and open when things go wrong, posting regular updates on simple things like individual server maintenance and lengthy blog posts if and when things go wrong. They explain in detail what went wrong and what they did to make sure it never happens again.

I recommend them for anyone, and here's just a few reasons why:

  • Unlimited monthly bandwidth and disk space.
  • Unlimited FTP, shell, and email (POP3/SMTP/IMAP/Web mail) accounts.
  • Unlimited MySQL databases (MySQL 5).
  • Supports PERL, PHP 5.2 (FastCGI), and Ruby on Rails for your own projects and your favorite apps, like WordPress.
  • Create and manage cron jobs through the web control panel.
  • A sweet web-based control panel, custom made with its own API.
  • 97 day refund policy if you're not happy.
  • One-click install for MediaWiki, WordPress, Joomla!, phpBB, Trac, Zen Cart, and more.
  • Easily add GMail and Google Apps through the control panel to your domains.
  • Manage your site through DreamHost, and then use Amazon CloudFront as a CDN. Support for this is baked into DreamHost.
  • MySQL databases and files are automatically backed up, up to 50 GB.
  • Media Streaming, Flash video streaming, and Jabber IM.
  • Email discussion and announcement lists.
  • Integrated with CafeCommerce for your own online store.
  • Virtual Private Servers and dedicated servers, if you need them.
  • 24/7 online tech support (telephone support for extra) [I've used this a bunch, always a good experience.]

You can use any of these links to get discounts. Either click the link, or use the promo code on the sign-up page:

Code: P3X355 Two free domain name registrations for the lifetime of your account.

Code: P3X357 One free domain name registration, and one free unique IP address for the lifetime of your account.

Code: P3X358 $30 off if you pre-pay for one year.

Code: P3X359 $45 off if your pre-pay for two years.

Or check out the differences between the shared accounts, VPS, and dedicated servers. I wouldn't recommend these guys if I didn't trust them, and I certainly wouldn't host six websites there if I wasn't satisfied.
